After an encouraging campaign last season, Adelaide United currently remain the only A-League club yet to announce any new signings, but reinforcements are finally on their way.
“We’ve agreed with two players, that should be announced next week some time and we’re very close with getting something with another two players,” Carl Veart told Kick360.
“We said at the end of last season we needed to sign a couple of defenders and a couple of attackers, that’s what we’re looking for at the moment.”
“We’ve agreed (a deal) with an attacker and (also) agreed with a defender and we’re now just trying to finalise those other two positions.”
“It’s a matter of finding balance, we can see how times are now and how difficult it is to find and to get foreign players into the country and it’s (why) we’re looking down the local aspect.”
Veart revealed in United’s digital fan forum last week that talks had been held with club legend Isaias, but a deal to bring him back to South Australia is far from finalised.
“That’s still in discussions, it’s a difficult one because he’s overseas at the moment so there’s a lot of other things that have to happen for that to go ahead.”
The Reds returned to training on Wednesday and after the longest offseason in A-League history last season due to the COVID-enforced hub, all clubs are now preparing for the shortest off-season in the competition’s history, but Veart says his troops are raring to go regardless of the circumstances at hand.
“It’s always good to get back on the park and it’s always good to be around the playing group,” Veart said.
“We’ve still got a long way until the beginning of the A-league season which I believe is late October or early November, so we’ve got a long way to plan for that. It’s a short turnaround for the FFA Cup but that’s something we have to deal with.”
Adelaide United are due to take on NPL WA side Floreat Athena in the FFA Cup Round of 32.
