With the Socceroos set to embark on a crucial two week stretch in the Middle East that will decide their fate for the FIFA World Cup to be held in Qatar, winger Awer Mabil is set for his first permanent move since 2015 when he switched Adelaide United for Danish club FC Midtjylland.
Kick360 understands, in addition to overseas reports that the 23-time Socceroo is set to sign for Spanish La Liga club Cádiz CF on a free transfer.
The move arises after speculation linked Mabil to an array of clubs, as he was frozen out of Midtjylland’s first team following announcing his intention to leave the club late last year.
In January of this year, Mabil earned a loan move to Turkish Süper Lig club Kasımpaşa S.K where he scored two goals and registered one assist in 11 appearances.
At FC Midtjylland, Mabil made 101 league appearances in the Superligaen where he scored 17 goals and chipped in with 27 assists over the course of five seasons. He was loaned out to Paços de Ferreira and Esbjerg fB over the course of the 2015/16 and 2016/17 seasons.
The move to Cádiz marks a significant moment for the Kenyan-born winger, with the Spanish side narrowly avoiding relegation into the Segunda División with a narrow 1-0 win away from home on the final matchday against already relegated Alavés.
It remains to be seen if Mabil is selected in the Socceroos squad for the upcoming World Cup playoff fixtures against the UAE and potentially Peru, with the squad anticipated to be named sometime this week.
