Peru has the first chance to qualify. Gianluca Lapadula got the opener and Yoshimar Yotun secured the victory 2-0 against Paraguay and sealed the half-spot to the intercontinental play-off in June.
Colombia was in 6th position in the standings and waiting for the Peru and Chile matches to finish. James Rodriguez scored in extra time on the first half but it was not enough to qualify.
Chile had the smallest chance to get a ticket to the World Cup Qatar 2022. They needed to win their match against Uruguay (already qualified) and wait for other results but even with Chile doing a sufficient job in the first half, Uruguay won 2-0 with Luis Suarez and Federico Valverde scoring the goals.
Peru now must wait to meet their rival on the intercontinental play-off. The unique match for the final of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) will be played between the United Arab Emirates and Australia in June 7 in Doha, Qatar.
