Now that the A-League season is over, the spotlight is placed on the A-League’s youth sids plying their trade in the respective state NPL competitions

Adelaide United
NPL affiliate: Adelaide United (NPL SA)
Position: 7th
This weekend: Adelaide Comets v Adelaide United – Friday June 25, 8:15pm, SA Athletic Stadium
Adelaide United went down 3-2 in a close encounter with second placed side Adelaide Comets. The side back from behind on two occasions, in a gallant effort against strong NPL SA competition.
16-year-old midfielder Jonny Yull was a strong contributor in midfield for United, scoring Adelaide’s equalising opening goal.
Forward Binyam Kebede also threatened up front, also getting on the scoresheet in the 41st minute.
Brisbane Roar
NPL affiliate: Brisbane Roar (NPL QLD)
Position: 2nd
This weekend: Brisbane Roar v Eastern Suburbs – Sunday June 27, 6:00pm, Heath Park
Brisbane Roar put in a dominant display, running out 5-0 winners against Eastern Suburbs FC. The side score three goals in the opening half before adding another two in the second half.
Young forward Cyrus Dehmie caused headaches for Eastern Suburbs defence and scored a brace. He now sits second in the leading NPL goal kickers with 14 goals.
Midfielders Eli Adams and Roar captain Louis Zabala were strong in midfield, both pressed to create attacking chances and both scored goals.
Central Coast Mariners

Melbourne City

This weekend: Melbourne City v Nunawading City – Saturday 26 June, 3:00pm, Casey Fields
While the senior side were victorious in Sunday’s grand final, City would go down 1-0 to Nunawading City in their NPL clash on Saturday.
City’s NPL side were without several key players due to them being promoted to the senior team, with Good, Metcalfe and Maclaren on international duty. Though they’d still put in a spirited showing against Nunawading.
Captain Taleb Ahmad put in a solid performance between the sticks in the losing effort.
Melbourne Victory
NPL affiliate: Melbourne Victory (NPL 3 VIC)
Position: 7th
This weekend: Melbourne Victory v Western United – Sunday 27 June, 3:30pm, Epping Stadium
The Victory would draw 2-2 with Western United. The Victory score go ahead twice in the game in a tight contest, but were unable to hold onto leads for long, leading for six and three minutes respectively after scoring.
Matthew Bozinovski was solid in defence and pushed forward to head the opening goal of the game.
Midfielder William Wilson put in a promising display, as he threatened going forward creating chances, and also getting on the end of a goal himself.
Newcastle Jets

This weekend: Newcastle Jets v UNSW – Saturday 26 June, 7:00pm, Hensley Athletic Field

Perth Glory

Position: 6th
This weekend: Perth Glory v Floreat Athena – Saturday 26 June, 3:00pm, E&D Litis Stadium
Perth Glory would secure a solid 2-0 victory against Floreat Athena FC away from on Saturday.
Glory striker Adam Zimarino was the standout performer for the side scoring twice. He now currently sits fifth in the leading goal kickers of the competition and sits only one goal behind fellow striker Adam Anasmo as the club’s leading goal kicker.

Young midfielder Adisu Bayew was performing tricks, including a clever run to score the equaliser for Western United
Striker Manyluak Aguek was amoungst the goal scorers once again, bobbing up to score his ninth goal of the season in the 57th minute.
