In a stunning signing for the Melbourne Victory, it has been announced that Courtney Nevin will lace up the boots for the Victorian side for the upcoming 2021/22 A-League Women’s season.
Having made her debut at the age of 16 at the Western Sydney Wanderers, Nevin joins the Victory after making 28 appearances over three seasons, having represented her national side at Under-17 and Under-20 level where she made her full international senior debut in June 2021.
Nevin subsequently was a part of the historic Tokyo Olympic Games Squad for the 2020 games, named in coach Tony Gustavsson’s final 22-player squad.
She will join the Victory alongside current Matilda and former teammate Kyra Cooney-Cross, who re-signed with the club for the upcoming season following a breakout season in the 2020/21 campaign.
Nevin will be training with Cooney-Cross in Europe with the Matildas when following this she is returning to Melbourne in late October in order to join the squad for the remainder of the pre-season.
A-League Women’s Head Coach Jeff Hopkins stated his excitement at signing Nevin for the season.
“Courtney is one of the country’s best young talents and we are thrilled to have her join our squad for the team’s title defence,” Hopkins said.
“She is the complete full-back with her attributes in defence and lethal qualities in attack which will add another dimension to our back-line as we look to finalise our squad in 2021/22.
“We’ll continue to develop and nurture Courtney’s development as one of the brightest prospects in Australian football – especially with the 2023 Women’s World Cup on the horizon.”
Nevin also added her own comments, looking ahead to the upcoming season.
“It’s really exciting to be heading to Melbourne Victory to join the Champions for the upcoming season. I can’t wait to get started,” Nevin said.
“The last 12 months has been one of the most exciting years for me in my short career – making my Matildas debut and joining the team at the Olympics – and I’m looking forward to continuing that momentum with Melbourne Victory this season.”
Nevin joins the Victory in the midst of a rampant off-season where this week the club announced the signing of the well travelled Harriet Withers and re-signed Elite Girls Program graduate and current NPLW product with the Bulleen Lions Paige Zois.
