Melbourne Knights FC (3) vs Altona Magic FC (1):
The first game of Round 6 saw Ben Cahn’s men increase their win streak to three after defeating Altona at Knights Stadium on Friday night.
Gian Albano was first to score for the Knights in the seventh minute of the game after cutting in from the left and striking it into the top right corner.
Ciaran Bramwell finally got his first goal this season in the 76th minute after the ball was cleared off the line on multiple occasssions by the Altona defence .
Substitute Mohamed Sumaoro finished off the scoring for Melbourne in the 81st minute with a header past Altona keeper Zac Bowling. Sumaoro has now scored in back-to-back games after scoring last week against the Port Melboure Sharks.
Altona were able to obtain a consolation goal through Jonas Markovski scoring a penalty in the 84th minute. Markovski has continued his impressive scoring record this season, scoring in every game except against league leaders Avondale FC in Round 2.
Heidelberg United FC (3) vs Bentleigh Greens SC (1):
Bentleigh are still winless this season after losing to Heidelberg United at Olympic Village on Friday night.
United’s Sean Ellis opened the scoring in the 20th minute after some well-worked link up play among the Heidelberg midfielders and forward line where Bilal Habib assisted it to Ellis who was able to cut it onto his favoured left foot and score it past Bon Scott.
Bentleigh were able to level the scores through Mitchell Rooke after Heidelberg goalkeeper Hayden Browne parried Manase Abandelwa’s shot into the path of Rooke who tapped it in to score his first goal of the season.
Five minutes after Bentleigh’s leveller, the Warrios regained their lead from a James Wilson set piece where he was able to find Kenny Athiu in the box whose header went towards Ajdin Fetahagic who finished off the move to score United’s second.
Substitute Eoin Ashton sealed Heidelberg’s win with a goal in the 83rd minute after Kaine Sheppard’s shot was ricocheted into the path of Ashton who volleyed it into the back of the net.
Moreland City FC (4) vs North Geelong Warriors FC (1):
After a disapointing result last week against Avondale, Moreland bounced back with a win against North Geelong at CB Smith Reserve on Saturday.
Apai Ukuno was the first to score in the 33rd minute where North Geelong’s Nelson Tshongo failed to clear the ball properly from his defensive half and Ukuno took his chance scoring past Hamish Flavell despite getting a touch to it.
Four minutes later, Chudiar Tharjiath increased Moreland’s lead to two after defender Birhan Elibol assisted him with a scissor kick.
In the 72nd minute, Moreland scored for the third time due to Matt Sporle’s hard work up the field winning multipe duels and ending up assiting Jamie Latham.
North Geelong were able to get a consolation goal in this match through substitute Steve Fidele who composed himself in front of goal even with a defender in front him.
Although, Apai Ukuno ended up scoring a brace for himself and sealing Moreland’s second win this season in the 76th minute.
Avondale FC (3) vs Green Gully SC (2):
Avondale FC continue their unbeaten streak and still remain league leaders after defeating Green Gully on Saturday afternoon at Avenger Park.
Avondale’s Liam Boland kicked off the scoring in this match through a header in the 42nd minute with Stefan Zinni getting another assist to his name.
Stefan Zinni got on the scoresheet as well with a nice through balled played to him where he slotted calmly past Liam Driscoll in the 57th minute.
Green Gully did cut the lead back to one in the 63rd minute after a cross from Gianluca Iannucci found Nahuel Bonada in the box who headed it past Thomas Manos
Only after just coming on, Liston Diaz scored Avondale’s third after a well-timed through ball from Kristian Trajceski in the 83rd minute.
Substitute Adolph Koudakpo was able to secure himself a goal in the 87th minute and cut the lead back to one, but it was too little too late as Avondale held on to get the win.
Dandenong Thunder (2) vs Port Melbourne Sharks (6):
This game saw goals galore as the Port Melbourne Sharks win in dominating fashion against Dandenong at George Andrews Reserve.
Valli Cesnik scored four goals in total this game and it only took six minutes to score his first where teammate Luca Tevere was tackled in the box, but Cesnik played on and slotted it past Francis Soale.
Jackson Courtney-Perkins scored Port’s second of the game after some nice link-up play with Luca Tevere where he was able to weave past the Thunder defence and strike it past Soale once again.
Dandenong did get a goal just before the break through a Harley Orr header which was delivered by Mersim Memeti.
Into the second half, Valli Cesnik got himself three goals in five minutes in the 54th, 58th and 59th minute respectively. His first of the three was a header and the last two were quite similar as both were from outside the box.
After the absolute goal haul by Cesnik, Dandenong did score a second in the 76th minute through Goffry Lino who took it off the Port Melbourne defender and striked it past Andrew Withers.
In the 81st minute, substitute Dor Jok layed it off to Jason Courtney-Perkins who then scored his second and the Sharks’ sixth of the night to top off a tremendous scoring night for Port Melbourne.
Oakleigh Cannons FC (2) vs Hume City FC (1):
Oakleigh continue their unbeaten run this season after beating Hume City at Jack Edwards Reserve on Saturday night.
Alex Fiechtner stole the show this game as he grabbed himself a brace scoring in the 40th and 77th minute respectively. His first goal saw him receive the ball from Emlyn Wellsmore and curled it pass a wall of Hume City defenders into bottom right corner. Fiechtner’s second goal was deflected off the Hume City defence which sent Hume keeper Rory Brian the wrong way.
Hume City were able to obtain a consolation goal in the last couple minutes of the game through a Josh Bingham penalty which sent Lewis Italiano the wrong way.
St Albans Saints SC (0) vs South Melbourne (1):
The last game of Round 6 saw South Melbourne win against St Albans away from home while a keeping clean sheet.
The only goal of the game was scored in the 51st minute after Alun Webb’s cross found Max Mikkola in the box who sealed the victory for South.
