In a potential stunning coup for the A-League Men’s, numerous reports have emerged this afternoon stating that former Chelsea, Liverpool, Newcastle United and 26-capped England international Daniel Sturridge could be on his way to Western Australia.
Football journalist and Back Page Football editor Neil Sherwin and former FoxSports Australia’s Daniel Garb have stated that Daniel Sturridge has an offer from the Perth Glory, who have yet to have re-signed star forward Diego Castro for another season.
Garb understands that the Glory among other clubs have offered deals to Sturridge, with the A-Leagues club considering themselves a ‘slim chance’.
New signing for Perth Brad Jones, who spent six years at Liverpool as a backup goalkeeper from 2010-2015 could have influence in the potential decision that Sturridge decides to make.
Prominent Western Australian outlet Far Post Perth have also stated that the potential signing of the striker who scored 21 goals in the 2013/14 Premier League season could be perceived as a replacement for Diego Castro.
This is not the first high profile player that the Perth Glory have attempted to sign in recent years, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic linked to the club in late 2019 following his stint with MLS side LA Galaxy.
In recent months, Sturridge has been training with La Liga side Mallorca.
Should the Perth Glory complete the signing of Sturridge, he would join an attack full with stars including Bruno Fornaroli, Andy Keogh and recent off-season signing Adrian Sardinero.
UPDATE 1/10/21:
Daniel Garb is now reporting that there is serious momentum surrounding the deal to bring Sturridge to HBF Park, with suggestions the signing may even be announced today.
