The Australian Professional Leagues have announced that the A-League All Stars are set to take on Spanish giant FC Barcelona during the week of this season’s grand final.
Players set to participate in the Grand Final will not play in the fixture to be held at Sydney’s Accor Stadium on the 25th of May.
The A-League Grand Final itself will take place on the 28th of May.
“Hosting this sporting star power in Sydney will highlight the city’s attractions and world-class events calendar to football fans around the globe, turbocharging the NSW visitor economy on its road to recovery,” said Stuart Ayres.
“The FC Barcelona v A-Leagues All Stars match will generate significant international interest and put Australian football back in the international spotlight. It’s an incredible opportunity to showcase both our domestic professional A-Leagues and our beautiful Harbour City to the world,”

CEO of Australian Professional Leagues Danny Townsend said: “As we emerge from our third COVID-impacted football season, Australia and the A-Leagues are once again the destination for international teams.
“One of the world’s best teams taking on the best of the A-League just days before the men’s Grand Final is going to deliver a feast of football for fans in Australia during Grand Final Week.”
The reaction on social media has been mixed with many excited at the proposition of the fixture yet many questioning the timing of the game with the showpiece event of a domestic Grand Final possibly being overshadowed by a friendly.
