Round 17 of the Victorian NPL is in the books, with some interesting results occurring over the weekend.
Now heading into the business point of the season, which sides are contending to make finals and which sides are in a relegation battle.

Bentleigh Greens v Melbourne Knights
The Greens recorded a 2-1 victory over the Knights at home, coming back from behind on Friday night.
Trevor Ssemakula got the Knights off to the perfect start, breaking the deadlock inside the opening minute. Though it’d be short lived with Thomas Strickland equalising 20 minute later.
With scores level at half time, here’d be late drama with George Lambadaridis scoring in stoppage time to ensure Bentleigh took all three points.
Avondale v Hume City
The Avengers took out Hume in a seven-goal thriller at Avenger Park, coming back from behind on two occassions.
City would go two goals ahead through Matthew Lazarides and Birhan Elibol, before Liam Boland and Liston Diaz would pull two goals back in the 68th and 69th minute respectively.
Skipper Josh Bingham scored a minute to put Hume ahead, though it’d be short lived.
Stefan Zinni would tie the scores in the 76th minute before Blake Carpenter would go on to score the winner.
Green Gully v Dandenong City
Gully have recorded a comprehensive win on the road, taking out Dandenong City 4-1 at the Frank Holohan Soccer Complex.
Both sides would go into half time level, Alex Salmon scoring the opener for Gully before Nicholas Kalmar equalised.
Gully then ran away with the game in the second half, Yared Abetew scoring in the 50th minute before Salmons later doubled his side’s advantage from the penalty spot.
Mamadi Kamara would score Gully’s fourth and final goal in the 78th minute.
Port Melbourne Sharks v Eastern Lions
The Sharks have recorded back-to-back victories, cruising past the Lions at JL Murphy Reserve.
The Lions stunned the Sharks early, Marcus Dimanche scoring inside the opening five minutes of the game.
The Sharks would then rally and take the lead going into half time Valentin Cesnik and George Mells helping to reverse the deficit.
Mells would score again in the second half to seal the game.
Altona Magic v Dandenong Thunder
The Magic continue their good run of form, recording a 2-1 victory over the Thunder at home.
Altona got off to a bright start scoring twice inside the opening half an hour, Jonas Markovski and Cherif Mohamed Aidara the scorers.
The Thunder would peg a goal back on the stroke of half time through Deniz Yildiz. Though it wouldn’t be enough, neither side finding the net in the second half.
South Melbourne v St Albans
South Melbourne recorded a comprehensive four-goal victory over St Albans, bouncing back from their loss last week.
Max Mikkola would score a brace in the opening half to set his side up for victory, giving his side a two-goal lead going into the main break.
Harry Sawyer would put his side three goals in the 51st minute before Marcus Schroen ten minutes later scored South’s fourth.
Oakleigh Cannons v Heidelberg United
After a slow start to the season, Heidelberg have gotten their campaign back on track, recording a 3-2 win over Oakleigh.
The Cannons Aryn Williams scored the opener in the 12th minute, with Sean Ellis equalising in the 27th minute.
Kaine Sheppard and Joshua Pin would score twice in two minutes to put his side two goals ahead.
Joe Guest would peg one back for the Cannons in stoppage time.
