The A-League offseason is now in full swing, we have seen plenty of transfer action already! There have been a number of moves across the A-League and for our Aussies abroad, as well as some interesting rumours regarding potential transfers and departures.
Here are some of the top stories you may have missed in the past week.
Max Burgess makes a return to Sydney FC
Sydney FC has announced that Max Burgess has returned to the club for a second stint, signing a two-year deal for the club where he previously was during the 2016-17 season, making one league appearance.
He joins off the back of a stint for Western United, where he featured 25 times for the club.
Mat Ryan and Sociedad agree on terms
Socceroo Mat Ryan is close to sealing a move to La Liga side Real Sociedad on an undisclosed fee from Premier League side Brighton, who he has been with since 2017.
Ryan, spent last season on loan at Premier League heavyweights Arsenal, after losing his starting spot to Spaniard Robert Sanchez.
It is believed that Arsenal was also keen on signing Ryan, but he opted to join Sociedad, with the opportunity for regular first-team football proving key in his decision.
Jets lock in young talents Al-Taay and Warland
The Newcastle Jets have continued their strong offseason, securing the signatures of young talents Mohamed Al-Taay from Western Sydney Wanderers, and Riley Warland from Perth Glory.
The moves come just days after announcing the signings of Socceroo Matt Jurman and talented midfielder Cameron Devlin.
Tomi Juric to replace Derbyshire at Bulls
One of the most sought after players this offseason has been former Socceroo Tomi Juric, it is believed that along with numerous other A-League clubs, Macarthur Bulls are interested in securing the services of the striker.
Adelaide United are also said to be keen on keeping Juric around for another season, but it is believed that Macarthur is the club leading the chase.
Moudi Najjar joins Bulls permanently
After spending last season on loan at the club from Melbourne City, Macarthur FC have announced that they have signed the striker permanently, securing him on a two-year deal, Najjar featured 14 times last season for the club.
Toure off to France?
Sources tell Kick360 that Adelaide United’s young talent Mohammed Toure has secured a move away from the A-League, signing for an unnamed side in France.
Still only 17, Toure holds the record as the youngest ever goalscorer in the A-League at just 15 years and 326 days, Toure has featured 24 times for Adelaide in all competitions.
Ryan McGowan leaves Sydney FC for Kuwait
Socceroos defender Ryan McGowan has left A-League side Sydney FC for a big-money move to the Middle East, joining Kuwaiti Premier League side Kuwait SC, who recently signed former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel.
Micah off to Sweden
Teagan Micah, who recently made the Olympic side is set to sign for Sweden’s FC Rosengard, sources tell Kick360
She will leave Norweigen club Sandviken on a free transfer after the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. are over, her new side FC Rosengard is seen as one of the most historical clubs in women’s football.
Borrello switches German clubs
Brandon Borrello has joined Dynamo Dresden, who were recently promoted to the 2. Bundesliga, on a two-year contract for an undisclosed fee, signing from Bundesliga side SC Freiburg.
Borrello spent last season on loan to 2. Bundesliga side Fortuna Dusseldorf, where he featured 22 times for the club, Borrello leaves SC Freiburg after making just 8 appearances across all competitions for the Bundesliga side.
Donachie to stay a Jet
Despite very strong rumours linking James Donachie to a move back to Melbourne Victory, it looks extremely likely now according to Kick360 sources that the move will not happen and he will stay with the Newcastle Jets.
Donachie, who signed for the Jets in 2020 has yet to make an appearance for the club, after spending last season on loan at Indian Super League side FC Goa.
Dylan McGowan to Kerala Blasters?
After speculation linking him to a move to India, one-time Socceroo Dylan McGowan is in advanced talks with ISL club Kerala Blasters.
It is believed that he is close to joining the side, however, negotiations seem to have slowed due to wage discussions.
Victory and Glory’s tug of war over Socceroo
Socceroos attacker Chris Ikonimidis, whose contract recently expired with Perth Glory, appears to be in the middle of a tug of war between Perth Glory and Melbourne Victory for his signature and sources tell Kick360 that both sides have offered the Socceroo marquee wages.
Chianese’s future undecided
Having spent part of the last season on loan back in Australia with Perth Gloryoel Chianese’s future at Indian Super League club Hyderabad hangs in the air, due to concerns regarding COVID.
The 31-year-old attacker signed a one-year extension with the Indian side in recent months.
Irvine makes a German switch.
Socceroos midfielder Jackson Irvine has signed for 2. Bundesliga side FC St. Pauli on a free- transfer, the 28-year-old was recently with Scottish Premier League side Hibernian who were keen on signing Irvine to another deal, but ultimately fell short.
He featured 21 times for the Scottish club, after joining them in January of 2021.
