The A-League season has only just drawn to a close, but we have seen plenty of transfer action already! There have been a number of moves across the A-League and for our Aussies abroad, as well as some interesting rumours regarding potential transfers and departures.
Here are some of the top stories you may have missed in the past week.
Cameron Devlin to Newcastle Jets
The Newcastle Jets have pulled off a big coup in the transfer market, securing the services of 23 year old midfielder Cameron Devlin after he had failed to agree terms with fellow A-League side Wellington Phoenix, where he featured 44 times for the club.
Devlin, who was also named in the Olyroos train on squad for the Tokyo Olympic Games has signed a two-year contract with the Jets.
Matt Derbyshire to return to Europe?
Macarthur Bulls striker Matt Derbyshire looks set to leave the A-League, reportedly looking to return to Cyprus with an unnamed club, sources tell Kick360
Derbyshire, who spent four goal-laden seasons in Cyprus is reportedly keen to return to the country, after an impressive season with the Bulls. The Englishman was the club’s leading scorer, finding the back of the net 14 times in just 25 appearances.
Rudy Gestede ‘agrees terms’ with ISL club.
Reports coming out of India say the Rudy Gestede has “agreed terms” with a club in the Indian Premier League, with Bengaluru FC, where former A-League player and Socceroo Erik Paartalu currently plays, looking the most likely destination.
Gestede, 32, who previously played in the Premier League, had the unenviable task of filling the boots of Ola Toivonen, but he ultimately failed to impress in the league, finding the back of the net just five times.
Mariners academy star Jing Reec set to sign for Danish side AGF.
Sources tell Kick360 that Jing Reec, who made his debut for the Mariners in round 24 of the 2020/2021 season, is set to agree terms soon with Aarhus in the Danish Superliga, joining fellow Aussies Zach Duncan and Alex Gersbach.
Reec who was a highly rated member of the Central Coast Mariners side had been trialing at a number of clubs overseas in recent times.
Jordan Murray signs for ISL club Jamshedpur.
Australian striker Jordan Murray has continued his stay in India, signing with Indian Super League side Jamshedpur, replacing fellow Aussie Nick Fitzgerald at the club.
Murray, who spent last season with Kerala Blasters, became the club’s top scorer which garnered interest from clubs across Australia and India. The former Mariners forward has ultimately decided to stay in India, signing a two year deal with the club.
Ramy Najjarine to WSW
The WSW announced the signing of Ramy Najjarine, signing a one-year deal after leaving Melbourne City.
Najjarine spent the 2020/2021 season at the Jets on loan from Melbourne City, where he featured 15 times for the struggling club.
Kamau to depart?
Fresh off the back of an impressive season for Western Sydney Wanderers, Bruce Kamau may be set to leave with sources telling Kick360 that he has had offers from other A-League clubs, as well as Asia and Europe.
Everton youth star seals Danish move.
Olyroos defender Con Ouzoundis has signed for Danish Second Division side Esbjerg FB on a three-year deal, after leaving Everton.
Ouzoundis signed for The Toffees in 2018 and had appeared for the under 18’s, Under 21’s and Under 23’s, but had never made a senior appearance for the Premier League side.
Ryan Strain signs for Maccabi Haifa.
Ryan Strain has signed a deal with Israeli side Maccabi Haifa, where he will link up with fellow Aussie Nikita Rukavytsya.
Strain leaves Adelaide United after four years at the club, where he made 88 appearances in all competitions, deemed as one of the premier right-backs in the competition this season.
Where will Roy end up?
Former Johnny Warren Medal winner Roy Krishna has been one of the window’s hottest free agents, with his wife revealing that clubs in Qatar, UAE, Australia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, England and India are all interested in securing the signature of the 33 year old.
“We still haven’t finalized any deals yet. There has been more interest, but we are taking our time to decide based on COVID-19 and its effects on the countries these offers are coming from,” she stated.
Roy Krishna has spent the past two seasons in the Indian Super League with ATK Mohun Bagan, scoring 29 goals in 44 outings for the club.
Donachie and Geria to return to the Victory?
New Melbourne Victory coach Tony Popovic looks set to start a rebuild at the club by targeting two of the club’s former defenders. Sources told Kick360 that the club is targeting James Donachie and Jason Geria, who spent last season with FC Goa and Perth Glory respectively.
Macedonian international to Melbourne Victory?
For Vuck’s Sake reported last week that Melbourne Victory are keen to secure the services of Aleksandar Trajkovski for next season. The versatile forward has featured 63 times for North Macedonia, including 3 times at the on-going EURO 2020 tournament.
The 27 year old spent last season with Spanish Second Division side RCD Mallorca.
Perth Glory sign Aaron Calver.
Perth Glory have boosted their defensive stocks, signing 25 year old defender Aaron Calver on a two year deal.
The move comes after Perth Glory released nine players, including defenders Jason Geria, Sebastian Langkamp and Riley Warland.
Dylan McGowan to Kerala Blasters?
One-time Socceroo Dylan McGowan is believed to be close to signing a contract with Indian Super League club Kerala Blasters, with multiple news outlets in India heavily linking the defender to a move to the ISL.
