Following the departure of Carl Robinson yesterday, the Western Sydney Wanderers have announced that former Wellington Phoenix and Western United man Mark Rudan is set to take on the top job until the end of the 2021/22 season.
Rudan is now the fourth permanent head coach at the Wanderers in just over two years with Markus Babbel, Jean-Paul de Marigny and the aforementioned Robinson preceding him.
Rudan, a former Sydney FC player began his coaching career in the NPL with Rockdale City, later coaching Sydney United across two stints. He led the Wellington Phoenix and Western United to finals berths, having departed the A-League Men expansion side in June of last year following a string of poor performances.
“We need to improve our standing, plain and simple,” said Mr Lederer on the appointment of Rudan.
“This appointment was made to bring back a formidable mentality to our team, to stand up for our region and play with absolute determination to succeed.
“Mark understands the domestic football landscape at all levels and breeds a winning culture. Not only is Mark a Western Sydney local but he has coached at all levels and understands what it takes to represent our community.
“We look forward to Mark achieving success with the Wanderers, and with what we believe is an exciting squad. We encourage our members and fans to get behind our team and support them in our upcoming matches, starting this Wednesday night against Perth Glory, at CommBank Stadium.”
